GABS Hottest 100 2018
After just missing out on a place last year with our mighty Newtowner coming in at #4, it’s the comeback we’ve all been waiting for – GABS Hottest 100 2018! A jittery affair indeed…
2018 was an absolute belter of a year. We brewed beers with serious legends Foo Fighters and Afends, expanded our core range to include our Summer Hop Ale and debuted our very first mid-strength beer, the staff favourite Stayer. If you enjoyed our brews as much as we did, we’d love your support in this year's GABS Hottest 100, to help bring home that sweet, sweet spot on the podium. To vote, click here.
We understand, we're big ol’ beer nerds and your everyday tinnie slinger may not know what goes into our beloved brews (apart from blood, sweat and tears). Fear not, we've got you covered with a cheeky cheat sheet for this year's nominees:
Coming in at #4 last year, Newtowner was made to celebrate 150 years of Newtown. A golden, refreshing pale ale with great balance and hoppy aroma. Drinks all day, every day.
Australian Pale Ale, 4.8%
Soft stone fruit and lychee hop aroma, bright golden body, super refreshing with a slightly bitter finish.
Mid-strength Hoppy Lager, 3.5%
A beautifully balanced beer with a hazy, golden hue. Bursting with Australian noble hop character, super crisp, flavourful and refreshing.
Unfiltered Lager, 4.2%
Bursting with aroma straight off the top, the Summer Hop boasts a well-rounded hop character of pine, rockmelon, stone fruit and citrus. A solid bitterness is balanced by the gentle sweetness of Munich Malt and malted wheat while still achieving a seasonably dry finish.
Summer IPA, 6.0%
A big sticky number with a dank aroma of citrus, tropical and stone fruits with some spice berry. Biscuit and toasted bread flavours bring balance to the resinous vegetal notes from hemp oil and hop hash. A high-wire act, on the edge but totally in control, delivering flavour and sessionability.
Hemp IPA, 5.5%
Smooth, hoppy, black beer with mild bitterness, roughly based on a hopped-up American porter. Originally brewed as a small batch in 2017 it’s back in black by popular demand, bigger and bolder as this year’s YH Winter release.
Hoppy Porter, 5.5%
Foo Town lager, a beer brewed with rock ’n’ roll legends Foo Fighters, to celebrate their ninth studio album and ‘Concrete and Gold’ tour down under. A smashable lager with a touch of wheat, subtle tropical and citrus flavours with a classic Aussie lager finish. Best served loud.
Lager, 4%
Dubbel Skull
Classic, Belgium Dubbel style beer with a base of coffee aroma with hints of raisin, dark fruit and brown sugar.
Belgium Dubbel, 6%
Coral Sour
This naturally soured gose has a fruit-forward aroma, balanced in body by the earthiness of native davidson plum and hibiscus. A lingering body with a refreshing crispness and light salty note.
Gose, 5.5%
Voting closes 11.59pm AEST on Friday 18 January 2019.
Cheers mates, wish us luck!
