Top 5 albums of all time with Moody Beach
We chatted to the Sydney’s ever-talented Moody Beach this week, picking her brain to see what her go-to albums were and why she chose ‘em!
“These are some of my all time favourite albums by Australian artists. I think now more than ever it’s important we support Australian art, be it music or local brew. We’ll be an island removed from international artists for some time. I’m ready to embrace the new world filled with more Aussie-focused festival lineups. Here IT goes..."
INXS - Kick
I was raised on INXS. The speakers of my dad’s BMW 318i would be blaring with this album when he dropped me off at school. I was so embarrassed by how that car stood out but I loved Michael Hutchence and had photos of him all over my bedroom walls. I thought I wanted to be a frontman’s girlfriend until I realised I could be the front person and those posters were quickly replaced with images of Gwen Stefani and Courtney Love.
Favourite track: New Sensation
The Distillers - Coral Fang
My friend Kate introduced me to The Distillers in high school. We tore around the streets of Semaphore on bicycles listening to this... a lot. I know the band technically formed in America but The Distillers was founded by Brody Dalle who is one of Australia’s finest rock music exports.
Favourite track: Coral Fang
The Go-Betweens - 16 Lovers Lane
This album perfectly captures melancholy as I know it in that it is simultaneously light and dark. I listen to it whenever I feel a little lost and it reminds me I’m a part of something bigger. “Love Goes On!” takes the cake.
Favourite Track: Love Goes On!
Kylie Minogue - Fever
I hope it’s no secret that Pop is one of my favourite genres. It’s the style I’ll be leaning into for the next Moody Beach release. It took me some time to appreciate Kylie’s music for whatever reason, although I do recall falling in love with a boy at the Adelaide Skyshow to the song “In Your Eyes”. These days, when I perform a cover of “I Believe in You” with my friends Ghostgums, it feels so right.
Favourite track: Come Into My World
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Let Love In
“Red Right Hand” has been used to death for a South Australian tourism campaign, which I have no issue with. This record was on repeat at my share house in Port Adelaide and I’d blast it in its entirety from downstairs while sitting on the heritage listed balcony with all the windows open. Perhaps I’m more like my dad than I thought, haha…
Favourite track: Do You Love Me?
