Top 5 Albums of ALL TIME with Zoe from The Buoys
How are you spending your quarantine?
Maybe you’re making sour dough, maybe you’re becoming a yogi or maybe you’re sinking tinnies after a hard day’s gardening. Either way, you’re probably listening to some of your all time favourite tunes and reflecting on why you dig ‘em.
We caught up with Zoe from one of our fav Sydney bands The Buoys to see what her top 5 favourite albums were and why. Partly because we were after some fresh beats to crank, but mainly ‘cause we want to know what this absolute boss’s go-to albums were, and boy were we pleased with the choices. Check it out:
Interpol - Our Love To Admire (2007)
“It was actually ‘Antics’ that first got me into Interpol but I had to side with ‘Our Love to Admire’ in being my favourite from Interpol. It’s a work of art top to bottom that has stuck with me all these years as my favourite LP. This album has some of my favourite guitar riffs and lyrics of all time.”
The Beatles - Please Please Me (1963)
“I’ll have you know it was hard not to make all my top 5 albums The Beatles, but I narrowed it down to just one. I grew up on The Beatles, lived and breathed them! In reality, The Beatles Discography is one big tie for first place, but for the sake of choosing favourites, this is the one. Highlights for me are ‘Love Me Do’ ‘P.S. I Love You’, ‘Anna (Go To Him)’ and ‘Do You Want To Know a Secret’.”
Michael Kiwanuka – Kiwanuka (2019)
“I know this is only a year old but if you listen to it top to bottom like it’s meant to be experienced, you will understand it’s timelessness. It has a psychedelic soul feel to it with beautiful use of harp and strings. To top it off, Kiwanuka has such an incredible voice, you can get so lost in this album. My favourite on the album is definitely ‘Living in Denial’.”
Twin Peaks – Down in Heaven (2016)
“This album gets me from the opening track ‘Walk To The One You Love’, that twangy jangly guitar pulls me right in. Overall I think this album has my heart because of the lyrical content of some hefty ballads that you can’t not feel all the feels with. Plus… horn melodies always. This is another one of those albums where I can’t choose a favourite, because every track is amazing, hence it very easily makes it into my top 5.”
Pink Floyd – The Wall (1979)
“This is one of Mum and Dads CDs that I absolutely rinsed as a child. I was always very dramatic and performative, I loved the theatrical nature of this album. I would make dances to all the songs and perform them to my parents. I have very vivid memories of locking myself in my play room as a kid and playing this album over and over acting out all of the songs, so many accents for dramatic head turns hahaha. To this day I still get chills listening to ‘Mother’, a highlight on the album for me. My favourite rack though is ‘Young Lust’.”
The Buoys latest single “WAH” is out now via Spunk Records.
