Meet our new skate mate Lenny Tejada

We recently hosted Bar of Hammers and Screws at our Newtown Tasting Bar with our good mate and skateboarding legend Aimee Massie, where we gave away a 6-month YH sponsorship for the best skater on the day.

Meet Lenard “Lenny” Tejada, the winner of said sponsorship! We caught up with him to chat all things skating.

Born in the Phillipines but raised in New Zealand, Lenny moved to Newtown just over a month ago and has been skating for the last 12 years.

How did you get into skateboarding?

I saw one of my brother’s friends skateboarding and really wanted to try it out, so my dad got me a cheap $20 Spider-Man board and that’s what I started on.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations in the skating world?

I have so many favourite skaters, there’s probably too many to list down! Literally my friends and anyone who’s keen to just go out and have fun on the board is an inspiration to me.

What do you do in your spare time other than skating?

This is always so hard to answer for some reason haha. I’m really into cars and had a car back home in NZ that I’d take out drifting or work on here and there but other than that usually just chillin’ with homies! I also went to a lot of festivals and gigs back home, so I’m hoping to get to do more of that out here for sure!

And finally, what's your fave YH bevvy?

I’ve actually only really had Newtowner. I just moved to Newtown though, so I’m embracing the culture haha. Definitely going to get around to try the rest of the beers!
