Help us fight homelessness and we’ll SHOUT you a beer!
On Tuesday, May 21, YH-ers Oscar, Will and Jeremy will be forgoing the warmth of their respective beds, parking their cars on the rooftop of Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre, and setting up camp for the night. Why you ask? Because this sleeping situation is all too familiar for about 1 in 85 Australians on any given evening, and we reckon that’s way too many! A fundraising event close to our hearts, Newtown Neighbourhood Centre’s annual Car Boot Sleep Out aims to support the homeless community in our Inner West backyard. Over the course of the evening, we’ll be joined by a bunch of other Sleep Out participants for a night of education and discussion, hearing directly from people with lived experience of homelessness and of course, sleeping rough for the night as a symbolic gesture of solidarity with those who have no choice each and every night.
The Sleep Out aims to raise funds for Newtown Neighbourhood Centre’s outreach program that ensures first response to people experiencing homelessness. With Sydney, and much of the country in the grip of a cost-of-living crisis, their efforts have never been more important. In order to support their efforts, we’re asking you, our mates to spare a coupla’ bucks and donate to our YH Sleep Out team. In return, we’re shouting you a FREE PINT at our Newtown Tasting Bar. Simply show your donation confirmation or receipt at the bar to redeem.
