Hazy season is here!

Like watching the post-lunch hours of a Friday arvo slowly crawl towards beer o'clock, these warmer winter days are making it hard not to think about the slew of sun-drenched sessions to come.

We've never quite been fans of patience here at YH and as such, we're calling early knock-offs on winter and declaring Hazy Season officially launched! As we embrace the most tropical, juicy, flavour-packed brew of the YH family; our Hazy Pale Ale. we thought we’d have a look at the history of the beer style and what makes ours so damn tasty!

WHAT’S A HAZY BEER?

Before we rip in to a couple, let's nerd out a bit - ‘Hazys’ in their modern form really hit the scene around 25 years back, originating on the East Coast of the United States. Most Hazys draw influence from the New England IPA (or NEIPA), which differ from their West Coast counterparts by presenting more tropical hop aromas and flavours than dank pine/ resin notes.

Hazys are defined by their cloudy, pale appearance. With a softer bitterness to other Pale Ale /IPA styles, they tend to have a juicy, pillowy mouthfeel, complimented by those tropical hop flavours that make them so fitting for the Australian climate.

HOW ARE HAZY BEERS MADE?

Despite many ancient beers being hazy as result of limited technology, advances in brewing lead to 'clear beer' being regarded as a mark of quality. Therefore, making modern Hazy style beers can be quite a challenge.

One of the main challenges is creating a stable, or colloidal haze, which remains in suspension and doesn't settle out. Luckily for us, we've got some clever buggers in our brew team who know exactly what combo of yeast, grain and hops our Hazy Pale Ale needs to maintain its golden, cloudy appearance.

OUR HAZY PALE ALE

With a lower ABV than a lot of other Hazys, our 5.2% Hazy Pale Ale is a sessionable, springtime smasher! Straight off the bat, a pungent bouquet of tropical stone fruit, kiwi fruit and citrus wafts through the air, making way for that perfectly balanced, soft mouthfeel and quenching, tropical flavour. Not too sweet and not too bitter, our mouths are watering just typing this!

Joining our YH family last year, Hazy is now available at more bottleshops than ever before! Grab a 4-pack, or 16 x can carton from your local today and join us in celebrating Hazy Season! (It'll catch on)
