Newtowner Takes Out 4th in Hottest 100 Beers of 2018
Our beloved Newtowner has come in at #4 in the GABS Hottest 100. Just short of a podium spot but no less rewarding. We couldn’t be prouder of the mighty blue tinnie; what was initially created as a limited edition to celebrate 150 years of Newtown, is now our most iconic and frothed on brew.
Also getting some honourable mentions in the countdown were Natural Lager at #31, Summer Hop Ale at #89, Motorcycle Oil at #94, Afends Hemp IPA at #95 and our new brewery favourite Stayer JUST outside the list at a respectable #103.
If only ciders could get on the bill, our super tasty Cloudy Cider would be all over it, like parmesan cheese on your meatball sub.
GABS Hottest 100 is all about discovering funky new beers to try throughout the year, check out our place-getters below and see if any tickle your fancy...
Natural Lager - #39
A beautifully balanced beer with a hazy, golden hue. Bursting with Australian noble hop character, super crisp, flavourful and refreshing.
Unfiltered Lager, 4.2%
Summer Hop Ale - #89
Bursting with aroma straight off the top, the Summer Hop boasts a well-rounded hop character of pine, rockmelon, stone fruit and citrus. A solid bitterness is balanced by the gentle sweetness of Munich Malt and malted wheat while still achieving a seasonably dry finish.
Summer IPA, 6.0%
Motorcycle Oil - #94
Smooth, hoppy, black beer with mild bitterness, roughly based on a hopped-up American porter. Originally brewed as a small batch in 2017 it’s back in black by popular demand, bigger and bolder as this year’s YH Winter release.
Hoppy Porter, 5.5%
Afends - #95
A big sticky number with a dank aroma of citrus, tropical and stone fruits with some spice berry. Biscuit and toasted bread flavours bring balance to the resinous vegetal notes from hemp oil and hop hash. A high-wire act, on the edge but totally in control, delivering flavour and sessionability.
Hemp IPA, 5.5%
