"Free The NEIPA" - Brewed by the Women of Young Henrys

To celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, the stellar women of Young Henrys are proud to present, “FREE THE NEIPA” – a limited edition New England IPA, led by women all the way.

Part of the Young Henrys Brewer’s B-Side Series “FREE THE NEIPA” is a hazy, complex and fun NEIPA infused with the citrusy essence of bergamot, a key player in Earl Grey tea. Mixed with a motley crew of tropical, fruit-forward hops for a juicy, session-able beer made by women, enjoyed by everyone.

From the lab and brew floor, our sales team, marketeers, and legendary bar staff, Young Henrys is swarming with incredible women working hard to bring you the very best in beer. Whilst there’s no doubt we have a long way to go in achieving equal representation in the brewing industry, we’re pretty bloody proud of where we are now, and reckon it’s worth celebrating every day of the year.

Beyond the YH walls, we’re lucky enough to continuously collaborate with trailblazing women who inspire, motivate and straight-up impress us, dipping our toes in a mixed bag of fields including hospitality, music, fashion, sport, design and science.

Ginger Taylor is as local as they come, doodling her way around the Inner West since she was old enough to hold a crayon. A long-time pal of the brewery, we called on Ginger to create our Beer Is A Girl’s Drink mural back in 2017.

The mural was such a hit, we decided to create a “Beer Is A Girl’s Drink” t-shirt which (unsurprisingly), has become a core range tee and staff fav!

Last year, we teamed up with pop-art accessor Doodad + Fandango (Nikita Margarita) to craft the perfect ear bling for our Stayer tinnie, helping celebrate our ‘Summer of Stayer’ campaign. We loved getting to know the woman behind Doodad + Fandango - the plastique fantastique jewellery brand turning heads all round the world with her vibrant, innovative and sustainable statement pieces.

When asked what International Women’s Day meant to her, Nikita responded with, “International Women’s Day is very meaningful to me. In my lifetime I have seen so many changes in societal attitudes towards women, but we still have a hell of a way to go. As long as there are inequalities, there is something to fight for and there are still so many struggles for women here and internationally.”

Music has always been a huge part of our DNA, supporting emerging bands since our humble beginnings, understanding the hustle and genuinely wanting to make touring life easier with some frosty beers at each show. But, it’s no secret the music industry hasn’t always been so diverse. In fact, it’s only been in the last few years that we’ve seen actual positive progression for female musicians on festival lineups and headline shows in venues (not just supports). It’s been an absolute ride to work alongside bands like Pagan, Press Club, Sloan Peterson, WAAX, Georgia June, VOIID, The Buoys, The Oogars, Good Pash, Tuppaware Party and Caitlin Harnett & the Pony Boys (to name a few), unapologetically shredding through the Aussie music scene and leading the way for young female musicians.

When we asked Caitlin if she had any advice for young girls starting out in the music industry,“don’t take shit from anyone” was all she needed to say.

Local women’s charity Two Good Co. is an organisation that we’ve worked with for years, hell, they’re part of our family (actually though). Through good food and good things, they share love and respect with those who have lived experience of domestic violence and homelessness. For our FREE THE NEIPA beer, we’re donating 10% of all beer profits to Two Good Co.

FREE THE NEIPA is more than just a beer. To us, FREE THE NEIPA is a moment, celebrating and reflecting on how far we’ve come as an industry, community and company. We feel incredibly grateful to have all the women of YH involved in this beer, celebrating International Women’s Day in the best way we know how… drinking delicious beer with mates.
