The Venue
For those who aren’t familiar with the Whateley Street institution, RSW is situated in a big, lofty former hardware store now operating as a communal motorcycle workshop and restaurant space committed to championing local produce and community vibes.
Operating a bit like a gym-membership for two-wheel warriors, the workshop offers a place where anybody can come and share space, tools and knowledge – working collaboratively on bikes of all shapes and sizes. Sporting dedicated mechanics and many lifetime members, the workshop has become a much-loved inner west hub and even inspired previous non-riders to take up the tools.
On the other side of the bar overseeing the workshop space, the kitchen serves up a killer menu of incredible Japanese-inspired dishes. Using locally-sourced ingredients across brekky, lunch and dinner services, the tasty grub is complimented by an impressive list of local booze and brews.
The Collab
A long-time YH mate, Rising Sun has been pouring Newtowner since they yanked up the roller door on day one. When the opportunity arose to create an exclusive collab brew that not only paired with their epic food, but reflected the values, vibe and community who frequent the building, our brew team well and truly lit up.
From a RSW perspective, General Manager and Newtown legend Bec reckons that the collab falls in line with the venue’s guiding principle of ‘learning how things work’. Much like the workshop members sharing their DIY knowledge, the beer offered the RSW crew a chance to work closely with our brewers through the brewing process, becoming truly vested in the product they were set to serve.
The Beer
As with all good brews, the research phase saw the RSW tasked with trying as many beers as possible to nail the perfect product profile - a task they took VERY seriously according to Bec.
The final Bosozoku product is a crisp, refined malt lager that serves the purpose of both a sessionable brew and counterpoint to the venue’s umami cuisine. The name quite literally means "out of control" and refers to a Japanese motorcycle subculture known for their wild energy, sick style and extreme customisation of their rides.
Pop into RSW today to grab a schooner of ‘Boso’ fresh from the tap, say G’day to the team and enjoy all that this epic venue has to offer.
